Sundance 2011

Of familiar faces if they see few, even less of the red carpet, and the location is what it is (who knows how to locate on the map Park City, Utah?). Yet the charm of the Sundance Film Festival is here, in the mix of independent films made on the bill with almost a kind of modesty. Some of them will hear in the coming months, you can bet.

We focus on these five. The Future. The second work of Miranda July would not have been released in 2009? It should not have called Satisfaction? Back in: The director of Me and You and Everyone We Know has changed its title (The Future, in fact) and year of release (2011). Miranda July, waiting at the Berlinale in February, will greet friends and fans of the first hour at Sundance, which reserves a preview out of competition.

Little is known about the film: there are a couple in their thirties, a sofa, a story narrated by a stray cat. Ah, the male protagonist is Hamish Linklater. Higher Ground. A dual role for Vera Farmiga (actress in the Air), director and performer of the expected film based on the memoir of Carolyn Briggs This Dark World, set within a community of born-again Christians.

Mysteries of faith and salvation joints for a debut that will talk. The Greatest Movie Ever Sold. Before you binge at McDonald's (Supersize Me), then gave the hunt for Bin Laden (What happened to Osama Bin Laden?). Now Morgan Spurlock has another thought: to create "the Documentary Iron Man," "the first docbuster" in history.

In other words: this time the mission (accomplished) is to "examine the world of product placement, marketing and advertising making a film financed entirely with the product placement, marketing and advertising." I never kisses data. Can an Italian film at Sundance that finish first in our rooms? Yes, judging by the case of the film by Roberta Torre, past the last Venice Film Festival in Venice (in Italian Controcampo) and never distributed.

Good news: the history of the Sicilian girl (maybe) can do miracles will be released in April 2011, with its mix of folklore and cynicism has all it takes to conquer the American public. My Idiot Brother. We saw this in A dinner with an idiot, we'll see in February, how do you know? In the middle, that great talent Paul Rudd goes to Sundance in the role of "brother idiot" Jesse Peretz's comedy, one that can be removed even custody of their dog.

But with a big heart. How To Sundance Film Festival, Park City (Utah), 20 to 30 January 2011.
