You Ophiuchus?

From time to time, some observers of the sky brings to the fore but curious old issues of scientific structure of the tropical zodiac, or the end of which extends a few degrees above and below the Ecliptic, and that is nothing if not the circle described on the celestial sphere by the apparent movement of the Sun, Moon and planets visible all around the Earth, band divided into 12 equal portions and fixed by 30 degrees each, best known as the zodiac signs.

And sometimes, Ophiuchus, the man who brings the snake back to claim a nearly topical given that he was, for some reason, always denied. The observation is not without foundation. In effect, the zodiac includes, in its way, this constellation is between Scorpio and Sagittarius: approximately the Sun passes through Ophiuchus between late November and the first half of December (stealing the limelight from Sagittarius).

Ophiuchus (Latin Ophiuchus, the one who brings the snake) is one of the oldest constellations, it is in fact among the original 48 constellations listed by Ptolemy. So why has not found a place in the Olympus of the zodiac signs? In fact, the idea has no basis in astrology: the misunderstanding (as always) stems from the confusion that makes the signs of the zodiac and the constellations.

The zodiac signs do not correspond to the constellations, are an abstract and symbolic and want to establish a scientific correspondence between the constellation and the sign is an absolutely pointless exercise. It is true that the Sun in its passage through the zodiac, through 13 (not 12) different constellations (not left), Ophiuchus is one of these, but the Zodiac Astrology is a different thing.

So how is conceived adopted the zodiac astrology? As already mentioned, the astrological system divides the zodiac into 12 portions face calls zodiac signs (Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces), the division is conceived on a seasonal basis starting from March 21 (vernal equinox and, formerly, the New Year, the new season), and that the zodiac astronomy and astrology are not the same as demonstrated, for example, the fact that in the astronomical constellation, Aries has a length of 24 degrees.

By contrast, the Virgin (the largest) measures 46 degrees. For the astrologer both are 30 degrees, signs and constellations can not coincide because we are dealing with two systems of measurement of the sky that can not be related to each other. The astrologer is limited to consider the point 0 where the sun can feel the vernal equinox, from there on, every 30 degrees we will have a change of sign.

When the astronomer sees Jupiter in the constellation Aquarius, the astrologer will study the effects of the planet as if it was in Pisces, astrology, divination is a science that has its own rules, different from those of astronomers.
