The story told in a film of coolhunting

MoMa in New York opened the series New Directors / New Films program at the museum with a documentary film by Richard and Philip Gefter Press on Bill Cunningham, an emblematic figure and a key figure in what is now called the coolhunter. Bill Cunningham has always acted in the shadow of his art without too many manifestations of exhibitionism, spinning bike and published in print principally that of the New York Times.

The first published picture of the Greta Garbo, the format been so successful that the newspaper continued to publish photos which appeared not only celebrities but also strangers dressed in great style. That was the beginning of the great phenomenon that then with a photograph of The Sartorialist and the web has become a mass phenomenon.

Cunningham can be considered as its precursor, are decades photographing fashion trends while still in the street had never spoken of Street Style, more than 50 years that the photographer captures the style in the streets of New York. Richard Press has taken eight years to convince the humble and reserved Cunningham to give permission for the documentary, two years ago persuaded the photographer, provided that the records do not interrupt his work.
