The House of Dior has announced the commencement of procedures for the dismissal of its creative director John Galliano, accused of uttering anti-Semitic insults against a couple in a bar in Paris. The brand had been suspended from his post, the designer already Friday, February 25 following his arrest, although he had pleaded not guilty and had in turn filed a libel suit against the couple.
The situation has precipitated two days after another woman had already come forward accusing the designer of them anti-Semitic insults addressed in October. The story then gets even more complex due to the occurrence of an amateur video, shot in the same bar in December, where a state of alteration visible in Galliano offends two Jewish girls and claims to love Hitler.
Following the publication of The Sun video by the House of Dior was forced to take a position and issue an official statement announcing the dismissal "because of the especially heinous nature of the behavior and comments made in the video made by John Galliano public Monday. " The President of the Maison Sidney Toledano added: "I strongly condemn the statements made by John Galliano that are in total contradiction with the fundamental values have always defended the Christian Dior Maison." Meanwhile yesterday, Natalie Portman, the face of the house, had told of being "deeply shocked and disgusted by the video" and that as proud of being Jewish did not want to be more associated with Galliano in any way.
"Ultimately I hope that these terrible allegations will help us to reflect and to combat those prejudices that still exist and are the opposite of everything that is good," concluded the plaintiffs.
