TEXTILE-MODA, REVENUE GROWTH

The 80th edition of Pitti Immagine Uomo in Florence June 14 to 17 is the most important event in men's fashion industry and shows the most interesting Italian tailoring of high level. But it is also an opportunity to take stock of the state of health of the textile and fashion sector. Based on the investigation carried out by the Centro Studi SMI on a sample of over one hundred and thirty companies in all stages of the industry, the favorable economic climate has continued in the first quarter of 2011.

According to provisional estimates again (and subject to possible adjustments) performed on the data source of business, sales of textile and fashion continues on growth path taken last year, experiencing the first quarter of 2010, an overall increase of +5, 6%. In particular, the "upstream" in the sector, while slowing growth rates in the two figures mentioned earlier with reference to 2010, shows an increase of +7.6% and the "downstream" strengthens, rather, its showing a recovery +4.4%.

Although the market for the "mountain" is the "valley" is positive, the dynamic is found once more on foreign markets. The cross-border sales of sample companies are on the increase of +8.5%. The export turnover of textile remains in double-digit growth rate (+11.9%), while apparel and fashion shows a +7.5%.

The recent experience of an economic crisis unprecedented in the business community has led to a climate of widespread and general caution in assessing and forecasting economic trends and sector: such an attitude on the part of operators still captures Survey in 2011, although compliance the recognition of last year seem to be of a more optimistic convinced.

Investigating the sentiment of operators in relation to cyclical swings, it is noted that the majority of respondents argues for a "stability" of the conditions of operation, although the proportion (54.8%) falls compared to last year's survey (60, 2%), in favor of "optimistic." For those who show an improvement of the environment are in fact 33.9% of the sample, compared to 23.3% last year.

In contrast, the remaining 11.3% of the sample (compared with 16.5% Survey 2010) fears a worsening (12.5% for textiles, 9.3% for operators in the "valley"). Optimism "cautious" in the first quarter of 2011 are contrasted, however, worrying signs for the supply chain and maintenance of the recovery record price rises in the prices of raw materials and final consumption by Italian households, down compared to 2009 mainly in the face of the Fall / Winter 2010/2011 heavily negative.
